AS9001C is an extension of the ISO 9001:2008 Standard to fulfill the more stringent requirements of the aerospace, aviation, space and defense industries. The AS9100C Standard is available from SAE International, and auditors are being trained on the new requirements. Companies certified to AS9100B must transition to AS9100C over the next couple of years.

AS9100C extensions to ISO 9001 are in the purchasing area where scope of approval is required; the product realization area where project management, risk management, and configuration management is expanded; and the testing and verification area where new requirements have been added in a number of key sections.

Many of the AS9100 extensions marginally impact a metal finishing business, especially if the proper exclusions are taken; however, many of the extensions in the Monitoring, Measurement and Analysis section will affect every shop.
